Discussions Overview

A threaded discussion forum is an online message board that people can use to exchange information and ideas on various topics. When you access the threaded discussion page, you will see a list of discussion topics which you can click on to view, post, and/or respond to messages submitted by others. Threaded messages are a series of replies to the same subject.

This is an overview of the Discussion Tool in your course.

When composing a message click the "Compose Message Button."

To reply to a message:
Click on message you want to read.
Click the the reply button at the bottom of the message.

Select the appropriate topic by using the Pull down menu and clicking "Go"

Subject: displays the subject of the first message in the thread and the magnifying glass icon.

When you click on the magnifying glass it will show all the messages in the thread/subject in one window.
Click the "Unread Button" if you want to show only the unread messages.

Click "Unthreaded Button." This will show the messages in chronological order rather then threaded. * Threaded messages are a series of replies to the same subject.

Click "Update Listing Button" to display the new message you posted.

The arrow represents that the messages are reply's to the original message/subject. The bulleted arrows represents the thread of the discussion.

Status= Status: displays the number of unread messages in the thread over the total number of messages in the thread.

This number represents unread message.
This number represents the number of messages in the thread/subject.
The green triangle toggle when clicked on will show all message in the thread/subject.
The green triangle after clicked will point down and will show all message in the thread/subject.
The yellow envelope represents an unread message
The opened envelope represents a read message
